Former President Donald J. Trump has begun to launch sharp attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris to reduce the pace commonly attached by presidential candidates after her party’s convention.

In a series of social media posts over the past few days, Trump questioned Harris’ path to becoming the presidential nominee when President Biden decided to withdraw from the race and support him. He mentioned on Saturday that Harris didn’t get a single primary vote in this election cycle or while running for president in 2020. And he tried to weapon a central theme that the Democrats used against him during the convention.

“Now she is a presidential candidate?” Trump asked on his social media site on Friday night. “This is a threat to democracy!”

Harris’ campaign was full of messages during the conference to motivate people to receive contributions from big and small donors, and it seems to have had an impact. The campaign announced on Sunday that it had raised $82 million in four days of the conference.

After the weekend, which was devoid of electoral activities on either side, Harris and Trump will return to campaign this week, which traditionally enters the final leg around Labor Day weekend.

On Monday, Trump is scheduled to address members at the National Guard Association of the US conference in Detroit. This will be his seventh tour this year, an important swing state he won in 2016 but lost in 2020.

Between his appearance, Trump and his partner, Senator J. D. Vance is criticizing Minnesota Governor Tim Walge over his Army National Guard record. The Republican has accused Wals of resigning two decades ago to overdo his service and to avoid being deployed in Iraq.

The National Guard Association said it has also invited Harris to speak at its conference, which is expected to gather more than 4,200 people. The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to comment.
