
Second seed Emma Navarro of the United States beat Colombia’s Camila Osorio to reach the quarterfinals of the Monterey Open. Navaro won the match 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (2) in the early hours of Thursday. The match lasted for 2 hours and 48 minutes, ending late at 12:35 pm.
The 23-year-old Navarro, who won the NCAA Championship as a freshman at the University of Virginia in 2021, secured the quarterfinal match against ninth seed Magdalena Frech of Poland with the victory. Freich defeated Lena Gluschko 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-1 in her match.
Navarro won her first WTA Tour title in Hobart in January, while losing to Diana Schneider in the final of the trophy clarins in Paris in May.
On the other hand, the 22-year-old Osorio has won both of his WTA Tour titles on home soil in Bogota, the first in 2021 and the second in April. The Osorio lost to Leyla Fernandez in the 2022 Monterey final.
In another match played earlier on Wednesday, third-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated local favourite Renata Zarazua 6-3, 6-4. Aleksandrova will now face seventh-seeded Yue Yuan of China, who defeated Petra Martic 6-4, 6-1.
Also, fifth seed Elina Svitolina beat Elina Avenesyan 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the quarterfinal match against sixth seed Linda Noscova. Noskova defeated Xiu Wang 6-4, 7-6 (11) in another match.
In the other quarterfinals, Erika Andreeva will face Lulu Sun. The 17-year-old Andreeva caused a sensation by defeating top seed Danielle Collins in the first round.
