The Florida Python Challenge 2024 is an annual event held in Florida with the aim of controlling non-native Burmese Python. This challenge is designed to protect Florida’s ecosystem and control the number of pythons that have become a major threat to local wildlife.
The Burmese python is an invasive species that is having a negative impact on Florida wildlife. To control their numbers, the aim of this challenge is to catch and dispose of these snakes.
Competitors must register for the event, which can usually be done through the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) website or local administrativet centers. After registration, participants are given training and safety instructions on catching a python. They are also told how to safely catch and dispose of snakes.
